The class read a story about a crime and we decided to act it out.
Then students were asked to look through the pictures taken during the acting and write their own versions of the story.

CNGLR

There was a woman. While she was walking alone on a street, a thief stole her bag and ran away. When the she got home, she tried to reach her phone from another phone. Although the thief saw the text messages, he did not answer. But he read all of them. He thought for a long time and regretted stealing the bag.

Some days later, the lady got home and saw her bag on her front door. She was very happy. Everything was in the bag. Her money, her phone, everything. There a note also.

The note was from the thief.

‘I regretted slealing your bag. Please don’t report me to the police. Can we meet somewhere? I want to apologize’.

After they met, she said ‘ I have forgiven you’

He said, ‘ I will surrender’.

She said, ‘ OK’,

Later some police officers came and arrested him.

The decision of the judge was ‘ The thief is goıng to go to prison for two months’.

Mother's Day

Mother's Day

Don’t assume that Mother’s Day celebration is a modern event. Not at all. In fact, we can trace its history to ancient civilizations. The ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans had some special days to honor their goddesses. They gathered in arenas, give gifts and celebrate because they understood the importance of mothers to their communities.

Agna Mater

Agna Mater

The European colonists, mostly English,  also celebrated Mother’s Day but it was not so popular until mothers who lost their sons in wars came together to share their experiences. They formed a committee to find solutions to the problems the sad mothers could have. This meeting was organized by Ann Reeves Jarvis. After her death, her daughter organized a church service to remember her. There she gave two carnations to every mother present.

Carnations

Carnations

In 1914, the US made a law that the second Sunday in May of every year be celebrated as Mother’s Day. Ever since then, people around the world have been celebrating this day for the most important people in the world. Our mothers!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day!

So what did you do on Mother’s Day?

Write about it.

A TRIP TO SULTANAHMET

Last week Thursday, we had the chance to see some of the most amazing and historical landmarks and buildings in Istanbul. These places have amazed tourists and historians for thousands of years. It is no wonder that tourists from all over the world have always visited them.

Despite the fact that last Thursday was rainy, and a bit cold, we were pleased to see lots of tourists from different countries. And we were glad that we had some chances to talk/interview some of them. According to our records, all the students interviewed and interacted with more than more than seventy foreigners.

It was not easy at the beginning, though. The excitement of starting a conversation with people who we hardly knew was high. But with time, we were able to break the ice and we became more confident. Within three hours, we put our English into practice. Every minute of the day was great.

In my opinion, it was a good activity and events like this should be organized more often for language learners.

WE STARTED HERE!

THBKDS

We went to Sultanahmet to improve our English. So we went there to have some practice.

I think Sultanahmet is the best place to do this because you can learn while practicing. When I went there, had some problems. For example, some of the tourists did not want us to interview them. At first, I felt a bit excited because I did not do that before. However, after some minutes, felt more relaxed.

If you want to learn or improve your English, I advise you to go to Sultanahmet.

ULSN

We had a trip to Sultanahmet to practice and improve our English. We have been learning the language since September last year.

There were some difficulties. For instance, some tourists didn’t answer our questions. Apart from that, everything was fine.

We met people from England, Australia, Germany, Greece, Holland, Finland and America.

I was excited before the trip but after the trip, I felt happy and relaxed.

I think students who want to improve their English should do activities like this.

TGDGR

hat trip was interesting. It was the first time I talked to foreigners. I could not understand everything some tourists said but it was nice to listen to them. Some of the tourists came to Turkey for the first time, and we introduced them to historical places. They listened to us. It was a nice time.

Last week we went to Sultanahmet for the social responsibility project. It was funny and a bit hard because some people didn’t believe me. We met a lot of people. Some were kind. We met Africans, Americans, Germans and Indians. It was tiring, though.

We asked the tourists some questions and after we gave them some information about Hagia Sophia. We took photos with them and we gave them brochures.

Everything was amazing. I would like to do it again.

 FTHTSH

We went to Sultanahmet. The project helped us. If we didn’t do it, we wouldn’t talk to tourists. I think it was the most interesting trip I have had with my classmates. And it was my first time to go to Sultanahmet. I didn’t understand the tourists because they spoke very fast. I met tourists from New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, and Germany.

I felt good and I think we should do it again.

I was afraid and excited on the day of the project. By the end of the day, I felt relaxed. I think this project improved my English because I learned new words and practiced. It was a useful project for us. I will do it again.

PLANTS AND FOOD
We Can't Live Without Them

We Can't Live Without Them

Foods and plants are connected to each other. Foods are useful to our health, and plants sometimes can be medicine for us. For example, if someone is ill, the solution can be in a plant.

POLLUTION

We are going to talk about air pollution. To begin with, air is one of the most serious problems in the world because we breathe air in and out all the time.

However, nowadays, we have air pollution. And it is harmful for us.Many factories, cars and some machines produce smoke. This smoke is taken in by people and it causes ilnesses.

Furthermore, not only people. Animals also breathe this smoke, too. So we must stop it.The solution is protecting the forests.

If we protect the forests, air will get fresher because trees produce oxygen for us.

THE AMAZON FOREST

The Amazon forest is a rainforest. It is avery important place for the earth because it provides the most of the oxygen in the world. If it disappears we won’t live very well. The Amazon forest is destroyed by people. Because they want to makefarms. The other problem is forest fires. These fires are created by people. It can be conscious But they must be careful. But we can limit this problem. First we must educate people about this problem. They must make agriculture with latest techniques. If we do these things, we can save the Amazon.

FOREST FIRES

We are going to talk about ‘Forest Fıres’. Firstly, this is a very big problem for our life. Now, what are the causes of forest fires?

For instance; bottles , cigarette and people, because when they go to picnics , they make barbecues and when they leave , they don’t put out the fires. So forest fires start.

Now , What can we do ?

First , we should not smoke in the forests . When we make barbecues, we should put out the fires very well. We should control the fires.

Secondly , we should create awareness. Also , we can start campaigns about forest fires .

In addition , if we protect our forests , it will prevent air pollution because trees produce oxygen .

To sum up, everything is in our hands and we must protect our forests.

RECYCLING

Recycling is very important because we can save our money and the environmen. For example when we use a water bottle we shouldn’t them away.

Why? Becasuse we can use it many times. If we it away, we will be thirsty again and we will need a new bottle of water.

So we are spending money. But if we reuse, instead of throwing it away, we are helping the environment.

It is good to reuse and recycle.

Heroes

Heroes

Leaving for you to live

Before the war, silence razed towns and villages

Thoughts of loss and pain ruled minds

Mothers culled around fireplaces

Fathers couldn’t mend the chimneys.

No point fixing roofs in the midst of storms

Tell the pasha the heart still pumps

The war began

Graveyards walled by mourners

Mothers dug with bare hands

Fathers gathered more youths for the fronts

Tell the pasha the heart still pumps

After the war,

Graves sprang like forest tress

Grass grew as partners

Comforting the lonely souls

Tell the pasha the heart still pumps

If you find my note,

Tell my mother

I made her proud

Have you seen the rose among the debris?

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY: SABIHA GOKCEN

Sabiha Gokcen

Sabiha Gokcen

Sabiha Gokcen was born in Bursa in 1913. Her parents died during the World War 1. In 1922, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the republic, visited Bursa and adopted her. She was given the surname ‘Gokcen’, which means ‘‘belonging to the sky!’’

She started her flight training when she was 22, and got her military pilot’s license in 1937. She was the first female military pilot. She flew many military aircrafts.

In 1954, she retired from active military life but continued flying. On 22 March, 2001, she died.

Today, we celebrate Women’s Day and it is important to know that a Turkish lady was and is still a source of inspiration to women all over the world.

With her life and career, she proved that women can achieve a lot.

One of Istanbul’s airports is named after her.
