FOREIGN LANGUAGES WEEK

Yabancı Diller Haftası tüm okulumuza duyurulmak üzere okulun çeşitli yerlerinde ilan edildi. Bu yılın sloganı ‘Languages make  the world go around’. Bu tema ile yola çıkarak bu hafta öğrencilerimize yeni bir dil öğrenmenin önemini anlatan mesajlar verdiler. Bu mesajlar göz önünde bulundurularak öğrencilerimizin ilgilerini dünya dillerinin üzerine çekmeye çalışıtık. Hafta boyunca tüm İngilizce öğretmenleri ders saatlerinde dil öğrenme gereksinimi ve önemi hakkında çeşitli sunumlarda bulundular. Öğrencilerimiz İngilizce derslerinde okulda öğrenciler tarafından yapılan çalışmaları ve sergileri ziyaret etti.

The list of activities for Foreign Language Week were posted on the walls of the school. This year’s slogan, which conveys the importance of learning a new language, was  ‘Languages make  the world go around’. With this slogan, we tried to get the students to focus their attention on many different foreign languages. We put up with basic phrases in various languages on each floor of the school. All English teachers explained the importance and neccessity of learning a new language in their classes. During the week, teachers and staff members did presentaions about the importance of learning a new language. Students visited displays during their English lessons.

PERİ MASALLARI VE YEŞİL ÇOCUKLAR

Birinci sınıf öğrencilerimiz ‘Peri Masalları’ ve ‘Yeşil Çocuklar’ adlı projeleri hazırladılar. ‘Peri Masalları’ projesi ile masal dünyasına yolculuk yaptılar. Her sınıf en sevdiği masalı okuyarak, o masalın resimlerini boyadı. Daha sonra bu resimlerden bir kitap kapağı hazırlanarak, sınıf kapılarına asıldı. Fazla resimler, birinci sınıf koridorunda sergilendi.

‘Yeşil Çocuklar’ adlı proje ise çevreyi korumakla ilgili mesajlar içeriyordu. Çocuklar çevreyi nasıl koruyacağımızla ilgili mesajlar ve resimler içeren pankartlar hazırladılar. Okul çevresinde yürüyüş yaptılar ve sloganlarını söylediler.İlköğretim ve lise binasındaki müdür ve müdür yardımcılarını ziyaret ederek, onlardan hazırladıkları çevre anlaşmasını imzalamalarını istediler.

FAIRY TALES AND GREEN CHILDREN

For English Language Week the grade ones read fairy tales, covered the class door with a cover page from a book, and hung art work in the corridor. We also prepared a “Green Children” project. The grade ones marched and chanted around the school carrying environmental slogans and banners. They  visited adults and asked them to sign a contract to protect the world.  

İKİNCİ SINIF ÖĞRENCİLERİMİZ SINIF KAPILARINI SÜSLEME

İkinci sınıf öğrencilerimiz Dil Haftası kapsamında İngilizce konuşan ülkelerin kültürleri hakkında bir proje hazırladılar. Her sınıf farklı bir ülkeyi sundu. Öğrencilerimizin hazırladığı bilgilerle sınıf kapıları decore edildi. Öğrenciler Kanada, Yeni Zellanda, Avusturalya ve Güney Afrika Cumhuriyetini hazırladılar ve sundular.

Öğrenciler ülkeleri ve ülkelerin kültürlerini yansıtan bayraklar ve haritaları hazırladılar, bu ülkelerin  yiyecekleri, ulusal sporları, giysileri, doğası  ve sanatçıları hakkında bilgi ve material toplayıp kapılarında sergilediler. 

Bu projenin bir parçası olarak çocuklar hem yeni kelimeler öğrendiler, hem farklı kültürleri tanıdılar ve kültürel farklılıkları farkına vardılar.

Our 2^nd grade students prepared a project based on English Spoken Countries and their cultures for the Language Week. Each class presented a different country. The countries were New Zeland, Canada, Australia, South Africa. 

Students found pictures such as flags, maps, outfits, food, sports, etc… which reflected on the countries cultures. Students cut and coloured their pictures and decorated their classroom doors. As a part of the project students had the chance to learn about cultural differences and different countries as well as developing their vocabulary.  

MASAL KAHRAMANLARININ KOSTÜMLERİ PROJESİ

Yabancı Diller Haftası’nda 3.sınıf öğrencileri tarafından hazırlanan etkinliklerden biri “Masal Kahramanlarının Kostümleri Projesi” idi. Bu projenin amacı, Dünyaca ünlü masalları canlandırıp öğrencilerin kendi birer masal kahramanı gibi hissetmelerini sağlamak, bir yandan da onların oyunculuk yeteneklerini ve konuşma becerilerini geliştirmelerine yardımcı olmaktı. Bu etkinlik için “Alice Harikalar Diyarında” ve “Oz Büyücüsü” masallarını seçtik. Öncelikle masalları hatırlatmak için sınıfta onları okuyup filmlerini izledik. Ardından koridora asmak üzere kahramanların resimlerini boyadık. Daha sonra öğrenciler arasında rol paylaşımı yaparak herkesin ne giyeceğini ve konuşmasını belirledik. Çoğunlukla kağıt malzemeleri kullanarak hazırladığımız kostümleri tamamlayıp konuşmaları ezberledikten sonra diğer sınıfları gezerek etkinliğimizi gerçekleştirdik. Proje güzel bir şekilde amacına ulaştı ve hem öğrenciler hem de biz öğretmenler yaparken büyük bir keyif aldık.

One of the projects prepared by the 3^rd graders was the “Fairy-Tale Character Costume Project”. The aim of the project was to make the students feel themselves as a fairytale character acting out the worldwide famous fairytales, to help them improve their acting and speaking skills. The fairytales “Alice in Wonderland” and “The Wizard of Oz” were chosen to be performed. First of all, we read and watched the fairytales in the classroom in order to remember them. They did some colourings of the characters to be hanged on the walls. Later, their roles were given and we arranged what to wear and speak. After finishing our costumes made mostly out of paper materials and memorizing our speeches, we traveled the same-level classes and performed the project. Our project worked quite well and both the students and we, the teachers had so much fun.

HAZİNE AVI VE TRIVIA QUESTION

 İstek Acıbadem İlköğretim Okulu öğretmenleri olarak 17-21 Ocak tarihlerinde gerçekleştirilen Yabancı Diller Haftasında 4. sınıf öğrencileriyle birlikte “HAZİNE AVI” yaptık. Çocuklar öğretmenlerinin okulun çeşitli yerlerine yerleştirdikleri ipuçlarının şifresini çözerek hazineye ulaşmak için yarıştılar. Bu heyecanlı yarışda bir sınıf ödülü aldı fakat bütün sınıflar bu heyecanı paylaştı. 

Yabancı Diller Haftası’nda yapılan diğer bir etkinlikte “Trivia Sorusu” idi. Öğlen teneffüslerinde  4. sınıf öğrencilerinin sordukları genel kültür sorusunu 4. ve 5. sınıf öğrencileri yanıtlamaya çalıştılar. Doğru cevabı veren ilk öğrenci ise ödüle hak kazandı. Yarışmaya katılım çok yüksekti.

As Primary school teachers of İSTEK Acıbadem, we celebrated the Foreign Languages Week from 17th to 21st January. The 4^th grade English teachers prepared a game called “TREASURE HUNT”. In the game, students tried to find the clues and the messages that are hidden in different parts of the school. Only one class got the treasure in this game but all of the students shared in the excitement with their friends.

       Another activity that is done in the Foreign Languages Week was the “Trivia Question”. 4^th grade students asked questions to their 4^th and 5^th grade friends during lunch breaks. The first student who came and answered the question correctly got the prize. Students were happy and the participation was high.

 PASAPORTLAR

 İstek Acıbadem İlköğretim Okulu öğretmenleri olarak 17-21 Ocak tarihlerinde gerçekleştirilen Yabancı Diller Haftasında 5. sınıf öğrencileriyle birlikte “pasaport” projesi üzerinde çalıştık. Öğretmenler günümüz dünyasında pasaportun amacını ve önemini öğrencilere öğrettiler. Öğrenciler, yabancı bir ülkenin vatandaşı olarak kendi pasaportlarını hazırladılar ve bu pasaportlar sınıf kapılarında sergilendi.

As Primary school teachers of İSTEK Acıbadem, we celebrated the Foreign Languages Week from 17th to 21st January. In the 5th grades, the English teachers worked on the topic “passports”. The teachers taught the students about the purpose and importance of passports in our world today. Then students designed some passports for themselves. Finally those passports were put on display on the classroom doors.

BERLİN DUVARI VE BARIŞ PROJESİ

Yabancı Diller haftasında 6. sınıf öğrencileri Berlin Duvarının büyük bir maketini ve bu duvarını yıkılışını anlatan afişler hazırladılar. Bu duvarı hazırlarken, renkli kağıtlarla kapladıkları ayakkabı kutularını tuğla olarak kullandılar.

BERLIN WALL AND PEACE

For Foreign Language Week, the Grade 6 students at İSTEK Acıbadem took part in recreating and remembering the Fall of the Berlin Wall.  Student brought in shoe boxes wrapped in colourful paper to represent bricks.  Other students researched the event, printed pictures and created three dimensional posters outlining the events surrounding the fall of the Berlin Wall.  The wrapped shoe boxes were placed along the school corridor walls to represent the Berlin Wall. 

 “BENİM DİLİM, BENİM ÜLKEM” PROJESİ

7 A, 7 B, 7C ve 7D sınıfları Yabancı Diller haftası etkinlikleri olarak “My Language, My Country” (“Benim Dilim, Benim Projem”) adlı etkinlikte hem kişisel hem de gruplar halinde hazırladıkları projeleri sergilediler. Her sınıfın farklı bir ülkeyi temsil ettiği bu projede o ülkede kullanılan diller de araştırıldı. Öğrenciler özellikle kendi isimlerinin ve günlük dildeki basit kelimelerin farklı dillerdeki söylenişlerini araştırıp paylaşmaktan büyük zevk aldılar. Ayrıca ülkeler ve o ülkelerde kullanılan diller ile ilgili hazırlanan renkli kartların koridor tavanlarında sergilenmesi öğrencilerin ilgilerini çekti. Bu etkinlik öğrencilere dili etkin kullanma fırsatını vermekle beraber farklı kültür ve diller de olsa toplulukların barış içinde yaşamasının önemini de hissettirdi.

“MY LANGUAGE, MY COUNTRY” PROJECT

            During the Foreign Language Week, grade 7 students took part in creating and representing different countries from all over the world.  Turkey, China, Lebanon and Russia were the final choices to be represented.  Students collected and created pieces of art, posters, scenes and cultural realia over a two month period.  The materials were then displayed outside the classroom so that students could walk down the hall and learn interesting things.  Students also partook in learning everyday phrases and words used in daily speech from the country their classroom represented.  This encouraged the students and added a fun, personal twist to the meaning behind Foreign Language Week. 

BİLGİ YARIŞMASI SİHİRBAZLARI

Yabancı Diller Haftası etkinliklerinden biri olan 8. Sınıflar Bilgi Yarışması oldukça çekişmeli ve eğlenceli geçti. 8 A, 8 B ve 8 C sınıflarını dörder öğrenci temsil ederek İngilizce derslerinde işledikleri genel kültür konularına dayalı soruları cevaplandırmak için yarıştılar. İSTEK Acıbadem öğrencileri İngilizce dersini sınıf duvarlarının dışına taşırarak, dili günlük yaşamda da kullanabileceklerini ve dil öğreniminin aynı zamanda başka kültürleri de tanımanın önemini bir kez daha kanıtladılar.  Yarışmayı kazanan öğrenciler, İngilizce film izleme ya da okulda bir günlük DJ olma gibi değişik ödülleri almak için kullanabilecekleri dokuzar kupon ile birlikte 3’lü kitap seti ve “Quiz Show Wizard” (“Bilgi Yarışması Sihirbazı”) sertifikası ile ödüllendirildiler.

QUIZ SHOW WIZARDS

During Language Week, grade 8 students participated in an English Quiz Show where student’s knowledge and understanding of general culture were tested.  Also, questions from the students new reader; Diary of  Wimpy Kid:  The Last Straw were also asked.  Students enthusiasm and participation was above and beyond our expectation.

 “BEN BİR ÜLKEYİM” PROJESİ

8 A, 8 B ve 8 C sınıfları bir ülkeyi seçerek o ülkenin kültürel ve tarihsel özelliklerini çeşitli şekillerde araştırıp, projeler hazırladılar. Ayrıca bir ay boyunca hazırlık yaptıkları bu projeleri üç boyutlu bilgi kutucukları, yöresel kıyafetleri giydirdikleri kağıt bebekler, yemek tarifleri, müzik ve film CD’leri gibi pek çok malzeme ile de renklendirdiler. Birbirlerine sunumlar yaparak bilgilerini paylaştılar ve sonrasında sınıflarının önünde tüm materyallerini sergilediler. Yabancı Diller Haftası etkinliklerinden biri olan “I am a Country” (“Ben Bir Ülkeyim”) projesi öğrencilerin dili farklı etkinliklerle sözel olarak kullanmalarına fırsat verirken, yazdıkları metinlerle de kendilerini ifade etmelerini, tüm bunları yaparken de değişik kültürleri daha yakından tanımanın ve İngilizce dersini alışılmışın dışına taşımanın zevkini tattılar.

 ‘I AM A COUNTRY’ PROJECT

Foreign Language week has been filled with non-stop excitement and motivation from the grade 8 students at İSTEK Acıbadem.  In preparation for Language Week, months in advance grade 8 classes selected a country in which they would represent.  For the next two months, the students collected materials, created three dimensional posters, researched the native language of the country, constructed piece of art and found clothing that would then be put on display outside the classroom door. 

İSTEK ACIBADEM IN EURASIAN SCHOOLS DEBATING CHAMPIONSHIP-2011

We are proud to participate the inaugural Eurasian Schools Debating Championships in Istanbul between January 27th and February 1st, organized by the Robert College Debate Society, supported by Yeditepe University, ESU Turkey and many more. We hope that this event will be an opportunity for our debater students to meet debaters from all around the world.

During the tournament, the delegations will be staying in Yeditepe University dorms on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, their transportation to and from the venues will be   provided by the ESDC organization committee.

 We hope that the tournament will be an exciting debating event.

İSTEK ACIBADEM AVRASYA MÜNAZARA YARIŞMASI’NDA 

İSTEK Acıbadem Okulları Robert Koleji Münazara Grubu tarafından organize edilen ve Yeditepe Üniversitesi tarafından desteklenen Avrasya Münazara Yarışması’na katılıyor. Münazaralar İstanbul’da 27 Ocak -1 Şubat tarihleri arasında yapılacak.

 Öğrencilerimiz yarışmaya İngilizce öğretmenleri Lidija Krekman tarafından hazırlanmaktadır.

 Öğrencilerimize yarışmada başarılar diliyoruz.

After School Lessons for Working Mom’s Kids

We have recently begun an after-school homework workshop for the children of working moms. In this workshop, some of our high school students stay after school from 4:00 p.m. – 5:05 p.m. and give special lessons to the primary students. The high school students watch over the primary students while they do their homework. This makes life much easier for the moms in terms of saving time and allowing the families to spend more time together.

ÇALIŞAN ANNELERİN ÇOCUKLARINA ÖDEV ETÜTÜ

Istek Acıbadem Lisesi öğrencilerinden bir sosyal sorumluluk projesi daha.

Lise öğrencilerimiz haftaiçi Cuma günleri haricinde hergün saat 16:05-17:05 arasında çalışan annelerin çocuklarına bir saatlik etüt veriyorlar. Bu saat boyunca ilköğretimden gelen öğrencilere ödevlerinde yardımcı olan lise öğrencilerimiz böylece annelerin tüm gün işte çalıştıktan sonra eve gittiklerinde çocuklarının ödevlerine yardım etme konusunda üstlenmek zorunda oldukları yüklerini biraz daha hafifletmiş oluyorlar ve minik öğrencilerde okulda annelerinin işten gelip onları alması için bekledikleri süreyi iyi bir şekilde değerlendirmiş oluyorlar.

Projede çalışan öğrenciler gönüllülük esasına gore seçiliyor.

PREP END OF YEAR PRESENTATIONS

PREP END OF YEAR PRESENTATIONS

Our prep students here at İSTEK Acıbadem, have been very busy preparing for their end-of-year portfolio presentations. As part of their presentations, we are currently shooting a short film showing “a day in the life of a prep student” and short individual student interviews based on their portfolio topics. These interviews will be included in the presentations that they give at the end of this year. There are many purposes for these individual student interviews. One of the biggest reasons is to show the progress that the students make throughout the year.

Another part of the preparation process is the development of Power Point presentations based on their topics. These presentations will eventually be given by the students from memory with only short titles, captions and pictures in the presentation itself. The idea behind this is not only to show the parents how much the students’ English has improved, but also to help the students learn how to give a professional and interesting presentation on a topic.        

HAZIRLIK SINIFLARI VELİ PORTFOLIO SUNUMLARI

Hazırlık sınıfı öğrencilerinin sene sonunda yabancı dilde geldikleri noktayı veliye gösterebilmek adına bir veli portfolio sunum günü yapılması yönünde alınan karar için çalışmalar 1. dönemden itibaren başladı.

İlk aşamada; öğrencilerin sene başındaki İngilizce seviyeleri yabancı öğretmenler tarafından İngilizce mülakatlar ile tespit edildi. Tüm hazırlık öğrencileri ile tek tek özel görüşmeler yapılarak sene sonunda yapacakları sunum konuları ile ilgili sorular soruldu. Bütün görüşmeler filme çekildi.

İkinci aşamada; Her sınıfın İngilizce ve Almanca derslerinden görüntüler çekildi. Bu çekimlerde her öğrencinin sınıf içindeki durumu kayıt edildi.

Son aşamada ise öğrencilere kendilerine verilen konular ile ilgili araştırmalar yaparak bir sunum hazırlamaları söylendi. Öğrencilerimiz her hafta hazırladıklarını öğretmenlerinin kontrolüne sunuyorlar. Öğrencilerin sunum esnasında asla okumaması, sunumundaki her şeyi anlatıyor olması kural olarak belirlendi.

Mayıs ayında velilere tek tek yapılacak olan bu sunumlar sayesinde velilerimiz öğrencinin sene başındaki seviyesini, ders esnasındaki katılımını ve derslerin işleniş şeklini ve öğrencinin sene sonunda geldiği noktayı görmüş olacak.

LITERATURE PROJECT

İSTEK SCHOOLS Foreign Languages Department is hard at work putting together a very exciting project!!!

We have collected several different poems from many students and these poems will become part of a professionally published book. One hundred and fifty-three students have volunteered to sell these books once they are published. Their goal (and ours) is to raise sixty thousand TL which will be donated to lower income families’ children who have serious, life threatening illnesses. These families would not be able to give the proper medical treatment to their children without the financial assistance we are offering to them. We are very happy to be able to help our community in this way and our students feel a great sense pride in knowing that they are doing something to change someone else’s life for the better.    

Colours in the city

A crying heart in the dry cold of the night;

Was merely granting its colours to the city;

A prayer of artist was hidden in each brushstroke;

Red fan frescoer and his followers,

In this city, colours of which faded away;

Choking their sins in the chaos

The love was purified with colours,

While the innocence was perishing with experiences;

Like a piece of cloth in the hand of a little doxy,

Day by day, our identities were being scattered over the streets;

Like a child, incapable of holding the pen in his hand

The city was painting each of us in imaginary colours.

İNGİLİZCE ŞİİR KİTABI PROJESİ

İSTEK Okulları Yabancı Diller Bölümü’nün planladığı ve lise öğrencilerimizin üzerinde çalıştığı kitap projemizde öğrencilerimizin yazdığı şiirlerden oluşan bir “şiir kitabı” çıkartıyoruz. Öğrencilerimizin değişik konularda yazdığı şiirlerin toplandığı kitapların satışı yine öğrencilerimiz tarafından yapılacaktır. Elde edilen gelir ile maddi imkansızlıklar dolayısı ile tedavi olamayan sağlık sorunlu çocuklar tedavi edilecektir. Elde edilmesi hedeflenen gelir 60 000 TL.dir. Şiirlerin yazılma aşaması bitmiştir. Satış yapacak gönüllü öğrenciler listemizde 153 öğrenci vardır. Öğrencilerimize özverili çalışmalarından dolayı teşekkür ediyoruz.

Gecenin ayazında ağlayan bir  yürek;
Şehre renklerini bahşediyordu adeta;
Her fırça darbesinde bir yakarışı gizliydi ressamın;

Kırmızıya hayran nakkaş ve müritleri,
Renkleri çekilmiş olan bu şehirde ;
Karmaşında boğuyorlardı günahlarını
Renkler ile arınıyordu aşk,

Deneyimler ile can verirken masumiyet;

Ufak bir dilenci kızının elindeki bez parçası gibi ,

Kimliklerimiz ; sokaklara saçılıyordu gün be gün;

Elindeki kalemi tutmaktan aciz ; bir çocuk gibi

Hayalini renklerine boyuyordu her birimizi bu şehir !

ISTEK ACIBADEM is Keen on Sharing Knowledge

Merve OFLAZ, an English Teacher at İSTEK Acıbadem Schools, has been preparing for the 3^rd World Conference on Educational Sciences (http://www.wces.info/) as a presenter and an author. The Conference will take place in Bahçeşehir University between 3 and 7 February. The title of her presentation and article is ‘The Right and Left Brain Dominance in Language Learning’. (http://www.wces.info/WCES%202011_Programme_13.01.2011.pdf) Nearly a thousand of participants from all over the world will be presenting their researches at this conference.

MUSICAL COMEDY

İSTEK HIGH SCHOOL’S DRAMA CLUB

The students of Istek Acıbadem High School’s Drama Club are pleased to announce their participation in the Belde Drama Festival Competition, which will be held in May of this year. They will be performing: Veronica vs. Shakespeare, a one hour play and comedy about what would have happened if Romeo and Juliet had married.

     Our young, aspiring actors have been working very hard to prepare props, memorize lines for songs and to design their costumes. We are so proud of the fact that they have assumed complete ownership over this endeavour from day one and we are looking forward to watching them perform in May.

     In June, the winner of this competition will have the awesome chance to perform in CKM in front of famous actors. We wish all those involved in this competition the very best of luck!

İNGİLİZCE MÜZİKAL OYUNUMUZ

 İSTEK Acıbadem öğrencileri Mayıs ayında ve Haziran ayında yapılacak Drama Festivali için oyun hazırlıklarına başladı. Senaryosunu Yabancı Diller Bölüm öğretmenlerinin yazıdığı oyun bir saatlik bir müzikale çevrildi. Şarkıların sözleri yazılıp seçilen müziklerle birleştirilerek oyuna zenginlik katıldı. Oyun William Shakespeare’in Romeo ve Juliet’inden esinlenerek yazılan komedi bir oyundur.

Müzikal için yapılan seçmeler Türk ve Yabancı öğretmenler tarafından düzenlendi. Seçmelere katılan öğrenciler ilk olarak kendilerine verilen senaryodan 1 sayfayı çalışıp jüri önünde oynadı. Oyunda 36 kişilik bir oyuncu kadrosu, 4 kişilik teknik sorumlu, 6 kişilik dekor dizayn ve yapım ekibi, 7 kişilik kostüm çizim ve dizayn ekibi, 5 kişilik müzisyen öğrenciler ekibi çalışmaktadır.

Ezberleri tamamlanan oyunumuzun sahne provaları 17 Ocak tarihinde başlayacaktır.

Şarkıların canlı çalınıp söyleneceği müzikal oyunumuz için öğrencilerimiz büyük özveri ile çalışmaktalardır.

Kendilerine başarılar diliyoruz.
