Ein Tagesausflug zum Goethe Insitut

Deutsch ist die am meisten gesprochene Muttersprache in Europa.
Fremdsprachenerkenntnisse erwecken den kulturellen und beruflichen Horizont, sie wecken auch ein Verständnis für andere Kulturen. Mehrsprachigkeit ist grundsätzlich ein Vorteil.
In Istek Schulen beginnt die zweite Fremdsprache in der 6. Klasse.
 
 
Am 18. April 2011 wird ein Ausflug für 20 Schüler aus der 11.Klasse organisiert.Die Schüler haben die Rallye mit interessanten Fragen zu „deutschen Spuren“ auf den Straßen von Beyoğlu (Galatasaray bis Tünel) verbunden mit einem Besuch im Goethe-Institut und der Institutsbibliothek begonnen.
 
Die Stadtrallye”Deutsche Spuren in Istanbul-Beyoğlu” ist das Richtige für einen intersessanten und lehrreichen Deutschunterricht.
Die zwei Siegergruppen werden im Institut mit tollen Preisen belohnt.
Die Schüler haben diesen Tag sehr interessant gefunden.

Goethe Enstitüsü’ne gezi
 
 
Almanca Avrupa’da en çok konuşulan ana dildir.Dil becerilerini geliştirmek, diğer kültürlerin anlayışını  kavramalarını sağlamak;  entellektül ve profesyonel ufuklarını genişletmektir.Çok dillilik bir avantajdır.
 
Bu anlamda İstek Okulllarında “İkinci Yabancı Diller Dil Eğitimi” olan Almanca 6. sınıfta başlar.
 
18 Nisan 2001 tarihinde 11. sınıflardan 20 öğrenci ile Goethe Enstitüsü’ne bir gezi düzenlendi.
Öğrenciler  Beyoğlu’nda Goethe Enstitüsü’nden başlayıp Galatasaray’dan Tünel’e kadar süren gezi boyunca hazırlanmış soruları cevapladılar.
“Die Stadtrallye”, öğrenciler için ilginç ve yararlı bir almanca dersi oldu.
Kazanan iki grup enstitü tarafından ödüllendirildi.
Öğrenciler bu günü çok ilginç buldular.

Child Labor And Rights Competition

We are proud to announce that İSTEK Acıbadem High School has placed first in the İstanbul wide CLAR Webquest competition!!!!!

After months of research and hard work, our campaign “Ladybugs Bring me luck!”was selected to be implemented throughout Turkey! 

This campaign will involve high schools all over Turkey in a grass roots campaign to fight Child labor in Turkey!  A big congratulations to our participating students Berrak GÜLOĞLU, Baha Berkay SOYDEMİR, Osman ERGİN, Deniz Çağla ÖZSAMANCI, Selin TANRIKULU and teachers Çağrı YERSEL, Kathleen JUTEN.

Our colleague has received a silver award!

Merve Oflaz, an English teacher in our school has received a silver award for her blog on the ELT Blogathon held by the British Council. It was an online blogging competition where teachers of English shared their posts about ELT during February. Istek Acıbadem Students Volunteer at Hasan Tan Çocuk Yuvası (orphanage)

A real buzz has been created at Istek Acibadem School amongst staff and students who volunteer weekly to provide free English lessons to grade 4 and 5 students at Hasan Tan Çocuk Yuvası (orphanage).

According to Arzu Altuntas, Head of the Foreign Languages Department at Istek Acibadem, as well as project initiator, and manager: “We are delighted with the enthusiastic and generous students who are volunteering their time and skills, as part of a unique opportunity to serve humanity.  By helping those destined with a less fortunate fate, they have made this project a resounding success.  Moreso, a huge note of gratitude and praise has been earned by our diligent grade four and five students who have demonstrated that you are never too young to show you care.”

While Istek Acibadem High School students deliver the lessons under the attentive eye of their English teachers, the elementary grade students have been responsible for creating the yearly plan, providing materials for the lessons, and happily lending their own textbooks.  This experience has awakened these youngsters to the notion that volunteering meets genuine needs in their community.  They are being groomed, at an early age, to be active, foster high moral standards, and adapt characteristics which are pivotal to a positive, hopefully lifelong attitude of giving.  

While these student role models clearly make Istek proud, the true champions are those young people who so warmly welcome these volunteers with their precious smiles.  In the classroom, they demonstrate their eagerness by absorbing every word during the lessons taught with immense fervor, creating conditions teachers refer to as a work haven.  All of these little angels are representatives of the extraordinary, leaving all who work with them humbled, and inspired.  They have shown that sometimes those with nothing at all, are truly the richest of us, who have the most to offer.

By being driven and passionate about volunteering, Istek students have had an opportunity to provide love and care for these children.  Immersing themselves in this rewarding experience has created unforgettable memories and proof that benefits of such actions are endless.  

We hope that the opportunity to learn a foreign language will serve as a booster of self sufficiency and future happiness, which will ultimately span a web of enthusiasts, eager to continue with social responsibility programs.  As for our little friends at Hasan Tan Çocuk Yuvası (orphanage), we can say that in our eyes they do not belong to everyone and no one, they belong to Istek.  They’ve carved their place into our hearts and have become a perpetual part of our community.

Yabancı Diller Bölümü fotoğrafçılık Kulübü

İstek Acıbadem Lisesi Yabancı Diller Bölümü öğretmenlerinden Çağrı Yersel ve Benjamin Wright  Hazırlık ve 9.  sınıf Fotoğrafçılık Kulübündeki öğrencileriyle her Cuma fotoğraf çekimi için değişik yerleri ziyaret ediyor. Bu hafta okul lobisinde sergilemek üzere Ataşehir hayvan barınağını ziyaret ettiler.

3rd World Conference on Educational Sciences

Merve Oflaz, an English Teacher at İSTEK Acıbadem Schools, attended the 3^rd World Conference on Educational Sciences as a presenter and an author. Many Academia from all over the world took part in the Conference at Bahçeşehir University. Merve Oflaz presented her study called ‘The Right and Left Brain Dominance in Language Learning’ to an international audience. The aim of this study was to bring awareness to students’ brain dominance to improve the efficiency of teaching. The paper of the study will be published in Procedia-Social and Behavioral Journal, the ScienceDirect, Scopus and Thompson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index.

3. Dünya Eğitim Bilimleri Kongresi

 İSTEK Acıbadem Okulları İngilizce öğretmeni Merve Oflaz bir yazar olarak katıldığı 3. Dünya Eğitim Bilimleri Kongresi’nde araştırmasını sundu. Dünyanın birçok yerinden gelen akademisyenlerin ağırlandığı konferans Bahçeşehir Üniversitesi’nde yapıldı. Merve Oflaz ‘Dil öğreniminde Sağ ve Sol Beynin Baskınlığı’ adlı araştırmasını uluslararası seyircilere sundu. Çalışmanın amacı öğrencinin dominant beyinlerinin farkına vararak öğretimin etkisini, arttırmakla ilgiliydi. Çalışmanın makalesi Procedia-Social and Behavioral Journal, the ScienceDirect, Scopus ve Thompson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index’te basılacak.

9th National Selection Conference of EYP Turkey

The 9th National Selection Conference of European Youth Parliament (EYP) Turkey will be held at Lycée de Galatasaray between March 24-28 2011. The aim of EYP is to raise awareness of European issues, encourage active European citizenship, motivate students to get engaged in European politics and to provide a forum in which young people can express their own opinions, without reverting to role play. In order to better align itself with the International European Youth Parliament sessions, the selection conference which will be organized by Lycée de Galatasaray will be held in English.

Students taking part in the event should have fluent English, if they are to live this experience to the fullest.

8 students from İSTEK Acıbadem High School are attending this National Conference.

9. Avrupa Gençlik Parlamentosu (EYP) Konferansı

9. Avrupa Gençlik Parlamentosu (EYP) Konferansı 24-28 Mart 2011 tarihleri arasında Galatasaray Lisesi’nde düzenlenecektir. EYP’nin amacı Avrupa’yı ilgilendiren konularda farkındalık yaratmak ve gençlerin başkalarının düşüncelerini değil, kendi düşüncelerini dile getirebilecekleri bir platform oluşturmaktır. Konferansın ana dili, Avrupa Gençlik Parlamentosu normlarına uyabilmek amacıyla İngilizce olacaktır. Konferans katılımcılarının bu deneyimden en yüksek verimi alabilmeleri için akıcı bir İngilizce’ye sahip olmaları beklenmektedir. Katılımcı okullar konferansa en fazla 8 öğrenci ve 1 öğretmen ile katılabilecektir. İstek Acıbadem Okulları Münazara Klübü öğrencileri konferansa katılmak üzere hazırlıklarına başlamıştır.

A DIFFERENT AWARD SYSTEM :)

Grade 8 students were introduced with a new award system.  For two month prior to Foreign Language Week, students were given awards for completing homework on time, excellent classroom participation and behaviour, exceptional work and for giving a helping hand when needed.  During language week the students were given the opportunity to collectively or independantly “spend” their award cards.  Depending on how many a student or class collected, different rewards were awarded.  Rewards ranged from having hot chocolate with one of your English teachers to watch a film as a class during a lesson.  This new reward system was both intrinsically and extrinsically motivating for the students.  Students motivation was high and it was a huge success on many different levels.

FARKLI BİR ÖDÜLLENDİRME YÖNTEMİ

Dil öğrenimi sırasında öğrencileri en çok motive eden şeylerden birisi de ödüllendirilmeleridir. Derse katılımları, okul ortamında İngilizce’yi kullanmaları, düzenli ödev yapmaları ve genel davranışları ile değerlendirilen öğrenciler İngilizce öğretmenleri tarafından hazırlanan kuponlarla ödüllendirildi. Bu kuponların bir özelliği de üzerlerinde öğrendikleri kelimelerin ve resimlerinin olmasıydı. Bu sayede öğrenilen kelimeler alışılmışın dışında bir görsel metot ile pekiştirildi. Öğrenciler, topladıkları kuponları Yabancı Diller haftasında kendilerine sunulan menüden seçim yaparak kendi istekleri doğrultusunda kullandılar. Ödül menüsüne göre kimi öğrenciler kuponlarını kişisel olarak değerlendirip İngilizce öğretmenleri ile öğle tatilinde kakao içerken İngilizce pratik yaparak, kimileri de sınıfça değerlendirerek İngilizce film izlemeyi tercih ettiler.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE DEBATING CLUB !!!!!!!!!

Yesterday , Thursday 27th January, 5 girls, from İstek Acıbadem High School, took part in the Eurasian Debating Competition, competing against other students from İstek Atanur Oğuz High School. We are very proud to say they won!! The competition continues and we wish them the best of luck for the forthcoming debating heats.

 27 Ocak Perşembe günü Robert Koleji’nde yapılan münazarada öğrencilerimiz İSTEK Atanur Oğuz öğrencileriyle karşılaştılar ve kazandılar. Öğrencilerimize devam eden müsabakalarda başarılar diliyoruz.
